 San Diego Theatre Critics Circle president Pam Kragen with winner Obba Babatundé, who flew in from New York to accept his prize for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical for "Sammy" at the Old Globe.

La Jolla Playhouse artistic director Chris Ashley, left, with actress Melissa van der Schyff and Playhouse public relations manager Becky Biegelsen. Ashley picked up an award for Outstanding New Musical for the Playhouse's "Bonnie & Clyde," and van der Schyff won for her featured role as Blanche Barrow.

Darko Tresnjak, center, with his husband Josh Pearson, left, and Critics Circle vice president Anne Marie Welsh. Tresnjak was honored with both a directorial award for "Cyrano de Bergerac" at the Old Globe and a Special Achievement Award for his Vivid Reimagining of the Classics as six-year artistic director of the Globe's Summer Shakespeare Festival. He recently resigned the position to return to freelance directing.

Rodney Hutsona and Rodger Varner, members of the Choice Entertainers, a men's a cappella doo-wop group that brought down the house with a live performance. The group was featured in the musical revue "Looking for An Echo," which earned a Special Theatrical Event award.

North Coast Repertory Theatre artistic director David Ellenstein with his wife, Denise, and La Jolla Playhouse general manager Debby Buchholz. North Coast Rep earned an Outstanding Ensemble award for "The Dresser."

Cygnet Theatre co-founders Bill Schmidt and Sean Murray. Cygnet earned an Outstanding Ensemble award for "Noises Off," which Murray directed.
